Final Project V2
I’ve had a hard time coming up with a new project idea since all of this has happened. What I have right now is taking pictures of empty and roped off parks and I have a few pictures for it. I have only had time to photograph one park so far but there are plenty more parks around my hometown for me to photograph in the coming weeks. How am I going to make this interesting? In all honesty I don’t know. I’m feeling sort of lost right now and I’m trying my best to keep creating and producing work.
Final Project V3
So I’ve changed my project direction once again but I believe I finally have something that I can stick with. I decided to roll with the feeling of being lost during these weird times and am taking portraits of people standing at their front doors with me at least 6 feet away, per social distancing rules. I am also having the people I photograph give me statement on their feelings about COVID-19 and how it is effecting them mentally and physically. These statements are going to be in a digital form. I have only done four people so far but I have a list of four other participants I have yet to photograph. As of right now I am debating on whether or not I will present the final project with just one portrait of each person or two. I like the idea of just one though and feel it will present better. I also want to include the first names of my participants and their ages. I am unsure if I should include the town they live in or not, given that all but one are from the same town.
Statements are included underneath each image group.
“I personally hate this whole situation and want it to be over. I don’t really care a whole lot of how it started, I really just want to be able to go back to work and feel normal again. I’m incredibly bored and falling into depressive funks with no consistent human contact.” -Samuel, 20
“The whole COVID thing has been 50/50 for me. For one, having to not go to school makes it easier for me to be on my own schedule, but I also kind of miss everyone. Another thing about being in 8th grade is that I’m going to miss my 8th grade graduation and dance, it may not be as cool as being a senior, and going to prom and graduating, but it’s still something you can only experience once. At home nothing much has changed, I still go on runs, I still play baseball (only with my sister), and I still go to the store. Overall, COVID isn’t effecting me in a bad way necessarily, but I know it’s having bad effects on other people, which makes me scared that this will not be over for a long time, and it also makes me scared that I’m going to maybe get sick.” – Austin, 13
It sucks. I understand why things need to be like this. I don’t want to put the vulnerable in danger. But I need to roam, I need some sunlight and fresh air. I cant stand being stuck in one room for months. I just want to go outside and hold some frogs. -Jordan, 21
The quarantine has been rough on everyone. The only saving grace in having discord and video games to play with the friends in lieu of real social interaction……and alcohol. -Collin, 23
