Week 1, 01/29/2020

For the first week, our assignment was to completely two photo exercises out of a list of many. For my week, I decided to do the exercises “Sit on a street corner and take notes for 1 hour and pictures for 2 hours” and “Document a journey”.

I chose the corner of N. Dearborn and W. Washington, which is the southeast corner of the Daley Plaza. I took notes for about an hour and then I began to take pictures. Unfortunately, my camera battery hardly lasted an hour, despite it being fully charged when I left my house. I was still able to take 100 photos, but I wish I could have stayed longer to take more. I have made a note to carry an extra camera battery with me at all times now, so hopefully something like this will not happen again.

My Notes:

– overcast weather – Busy traffic – Some people with suitcases – Couple with a dog – Some groups of people with shopping bags – Lots of pigeons and small birds on the bare branches of the tree next to me – At least four “One Way” signs in view – 4 buses past within a minute – Green light lasted 30 seconds – A mall is across the street – I am sitting on a stone bench and it is very cold – Church bells rang 15 minutes before the hour – Pigeon feather in a puddle in front of me – 4 people with green coats crossed the street at the same time – Card with loud music – At least 22 street signs in view – Trash cans right in front on me – 3 pieces if ABC gum next to me – 2 traffic cones to my left – 6 red signs in view – 5 green signs in view – Staircase to my right – Pillars to prevent cars from going on the sidewalk across the street – A few couples with children with them – Decent amount of people out but not busy in my opinion – Crushed cigarette bud to my left – A small, immature pigeon feather – Tree next to me is wrapped in unlit Christmas lights – Many young people are out – Some snow in the dirt that the tree is in, but its very dirty – All glass buildings directly on the corner – 5/14 street lamps lit in view – All the birds suddenly scattered for no apparent reason – Big gust of wind blew leafs towards me – Car garage alarm can be heard – 15 people with backpacks at within a minute – A runner – U.S flag on building to right – First car honk since i arrived – 2 cars with hazard lights on – Kids began climbing on the Picasso – Security guard went over mic to tell them to stop

For My second exercise, I documented my friend and mine’s journey to our other friend’s apartment for a party. It was dark out so many photos are blurry and dark. In hindsight I should have brought a tripod and took my time taking the photos, even if it meant being late to our friend’s party.
