Week 2, 02/11/2020

For this week’s assignment, we were to go more in depth with one of the photo exercises. I chose to do the street corner assignment again. This time my camera didn’t die on me so I was able to stay longer. However, I chose a very cold day and very windy spot for my observations and I could only handle the cold for about an hour before I decided to head home before my fingers froze off. I was able to get my hundred photos, but I am disappointed in myself for not being able to stay the entire time. I stood at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Roosevelt Road, right near the Museum Campus.

Notes:

  • It is really windy
  • Like I can barely feel my finger tips, not sure how many notes I’m going to be able to take
  • The bench i’m on is metal so that’s great
  • No spot to hide from the wind
  • Big intersection
  • Empty lot in south-east corner of intersection
  • Green bike path to my left
  • I’m facing west. In the north east corner if the intersection
  • I can see the Roosevelt CTA stop
  • My bench says Chickadee
  • I can see the Field Museum in the horizon to the east
  • The wind is coming from the west so I have my back to it at the moment
  • The darn sun is behind a building towards the south west
  • There’s a massage parlor on the north west corner and I want to go
  • I’m at the edge of one of the parks, I think it’s Millennium Park
  • Knocked over trash can at the edge of the park
  • Statues of what look like legs, I’m not actually sure what they are suppose to be
  • I wore layers and I am still freezing
  • Bus stop nearby, I might hide in it
  • Green pedestrian signs for directions to places like the Museum Campus and Soldier Field
  • Just saw a person in a cool neon orange hat
  • Sidewalk has some words on it like: INFLUENCE. DENY. MANAGE. Those are the ones directly in front of me
  • Salt pile on the sidewalk
  • The back of a bench says Pigeon
  • Trees are in a straight line
  • I see a dog in a vest! First dog I see
  • I’m worried my camera will blow away
  • There’s a “green” strip separating lanes of traffic
  • Subway and Aurelio Pizza in the same building as a fitness club
  • Lot of high rises on this corner
  • I think people think I’m weird cause I’m kind of just pacing and typing furiously on my phone
  • Salt foot prints in the sidewalk
  • My phone is slowing down from the cold
  • Just saw a runner. Wow.
  • I see a bike rack with 2 bikes in it
  • There’s a gas station towards the CTA station
  • Saw a guy wearing a sweater. How.
  • This is a super busy intersection, car wise.
  • 18 traffic lights on one side of the intersection
  • I lied its actually 23 lights
  • The lampposts on Michigan Ave has 6 bulbs on them
  • There are stickers on the pedestrian signs
  • I see a Divy bike spot
  • I just saw a yellow school bus go through the intersection
  • Saw a lady struggling against the wind with a stroller across the street 😦
  • I see two red fire hydrants
  • Just saw a sign for Grant Park, that’s the park next to me, not Millennium.
  • Second dog! Its been 30 minutes since the first!
  • This dog is also wearing a vest
  • The speed limit is apparently 30mph
  • I saw a guy riding a bike with what looked like oven mitts
  • I’m going to barely be able to take photos with my fingers like this
  • I need to invest in heavier gloves
