Final Project

Ideas:

The first idea I thought of for a final project was a continuation of the project I did for Photo Practice III last semester. It was a document project on my grandparents and their day to day life. However, even though they only live 40 minutes outside the Chicago, I do not have the time nor money to visit them every week so that continuation will have to wait, maybe until spring break or summer break. My next idea is more doable with my schedule I believe. I have really been digging the exercises where I sat at a corner and observed and took pictures of my surroundings and I think I would like to continue that. However, I don’t want to stick to one corner, I think I want to stick to a specific area of Chicago though. I liked the idea of going to the Magnificent Mile on N. Michigan Avenue and I think it will be fun to hang out there and get pictures of the people passing through the area. I want to try really hard to get more up in people’s faces, but not in the rude way of course.

Work in Progress #1

For the first week I sat in the small plaza around the old stone water tower on the Mag Mile. I sat and walked around there for about and hour taking pictures of the people passing me. A few people acknowledged me by looking in the direction of my camera, some pointedly ignored me, turning their heads the other way. I had one person smile and wave at me as she passed and I also took a picture of a couple where one of them took note of me. For my next W.I.P. I plan to walk more along the Mag Mile than stay in one spot and take photos of the people and stores I see along the way.

Work in Progress #2

Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling too good this week so I didn’t get to spend as much of time as I would have liked out on the Mag Mile. I tried to get closer to people though I didn’t do as good as a job as I would have liked.
